Welcome to the Apollo Engineering Academy
Apollo High School proudly presents Owensboro's longest existing Engineering Academy. Started back in 2012, Apollo High School set out to create an Engineering pathway that would invite students from Apollo High School, Daviess County High School, Owensboro High School, Owensboro Catholic High School, and even students from surrounding counties.
Over the years, Apollo's Engineering Academy has grown from just a couple of courses to two full four-year programs where students can earn up to 22 hours of college credit at no cost to the student. We are proudly able to support these pathways through the various government grants and our wonderful sponsors - BJ Killian Foundation, Southern Star, TC Energy Group, IMI Construction, and the Barron Family.
The vast majority of our courses are building the foundation of Project Lead The Way. Project Lead The Way is the nation's leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. Through world-class K-12 curriculum, high-quality teacher professional development, and outstanding partnerships, PLTW is helping students develop the skills needed to succeed in the global economy.
The Engineering Academy crosses pathways with Apollo's Code Pathway which, in addition to college credit, includes AP content in AP Computer Science A. Both pathways lead to a Capstone course either in Engineering or Programming where students work on real-world problems using industry techniques to develop real solutions. This unique experience includes having students present their final projects to a Shark Tank of experts where they will get valid industry feedback from graduated Engineering Academy students working in the field or other local experts that become part of our program over the years.
